Girlz Choice

Girlz Choice is an ten-week school-based lifeskills program supporting secondary school girls. Girls participate on a voluntary basis and may be recommended to the program by the school guidance or Student Success teams. A youth driven program, Girlz choice participants identify the issues they want to discuss. These often include relationships, drugs and alcohol, body image, sex, recognizing signs of abuse, family, stress and mental wellbeing. Sessions are held during class time. Together with a YWCA facilitator they explore personal goals, choices, alternative paths and opportunities.

In 2011/12, this teen girls program was funded in part by the Canadian Women's Foundation Violence Prevention Fund. In 2012/13 this program is partially funded by CIBC, the Town of Bracebridge and the Girls Action Foundation.

We offer the Girlz Choice programs at four Muskoka area secondary schools in partnership with each school's Student Success programs.
